We want to help you take control of your health before there is a larger problem. This preventative care includes weight management, physical assessments, and regular screening. Learn more on our wellness exams page.
Our providers are dedicated to each patient under their care, and while we emphasize preventative care, we have an extensive office policy on urgent care and helping our patients obtain the care that they need.
Our providers, Dr. Shane Machen, Kristi Grigg PA-C, Andrea Gardner PA-C, Wesley Butler PA-C, and Ben Johnson PA, are extensively trained in providing preventative care to each of their patients as well as emergency care. Each of our providers can care for patients in all age groups, making Machen Family Medicine the perfect practice to care for your entire family.
Each patient, from newborns up to elderly adults, will receive personalized care according to their individual needs.
Our patients aren't a checklist. We seek to forge a strong connection with each patient so that we can provide the best care possible. Relationships and trust are an important part of the provider/patient connection and ensuring the best care.
Dr. Machen and his PA's implement an approach to patient care that not only focuses on physical health, but their total physical and mental well-being. Our primary goal is to prevent malaise and disease from developing in patients through regular wellness checks and guidance for ongoing health.
Machen Family Medicine offers all of the services that a patient will need in a family clinic: annual wellness exams, vaccinations, biopsies, and general care.

Shane G. Machen, D.O.
Who would ever have believed that a bull riding, potato farming fisherman from Idaho would become a successful bi-lingual Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and establish a practice in Idaho Falls, fast becoming a favorite with his patients, young and old? It’s true. Dr. Shane G. Machen, D.O. is simply a boy from Roberts who has taken a desire to serve, backed it with a quality education, moved to Idaho Falls, and created a compassionate and successful family practice that, as a Doctor of Osteopathy, goes well beyond that of an M.D.

It’s true. Dr. Shane G. Machen, D.O. is simply a boy from Roberts who has taken a desire to serve, backed it with a quality education, moved to Idaho Falls, and created a compassionate and successful family practice that, as a Doctor of Osteopathy, goes well beyond that of an M.D. He has an exemplary bedside manner, putting the need of his patients first and foremost, and continuously strives to provide them with the best available quality of care by keeping abreast of the rapidly evolving advancements in medicine.
As a young man, he found that feeding cattle in -20° weather, training horses, wrestling, bull-riding, fighting wildfires for the BLM, and taking two years off to serve a mission in Chile has provided him with a respect for hard work and dedication. This also created a desire to share his talents and abilities, as he did in 2008 when he participated in a traveling doctor’s program in Guatemala.
Dr. Machen received his Associate of Science at Brigham Young University; his Bachelor of Science at Idaho State University; his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri; and trained in Family Medicine at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri as well.
Dr. Machen was drawn to establishing a family clinic because of one important lesson he learned during his residency…Family medicine doctors were some of the happiest physicians he knew on rotations. And, above all, he wants to be happy, become an integral part of the community, and make a difference in the lives he touches.
He takes pride in being able to provide urgent care for his patients, thus saving them sometimes hundreds of dollars over a trip to an emergency room. He’s also great with kids and considers his pediatric services to be one of the most rewarding aspects of his practice. With his training in internal medicine he can effectively diagnose and treat a variety of illnesses, diseases, and infections. Musculoskeletal issues such as pinched nerves, spinal misalignment, and carpal tunnel, as well as neurological issues can also be effectively addressed through the scope of the Osteopathic family physician.
Dr. Machen is a family man. He met his wife, Esther, at Rick's College (BYU-Idaho), and they have been married for over 15 years. They now have four beautiful children, two boys (Stetson and Austin) and two girls (Cheyenne and Bonnie). Esther also practices medicine in Idaho Falls at her own dental practice.
So now you know a little more about this Idaho boy. And the icing on the cake is he’s personable, he’s dedicated, and a caring family physician.
